Character restore may fail when first names match
Several players could not restore a deleted character while another active character shared its first name. If you want to keep both, avoid deleting either for now.
Status: Reported again on October 8. No official fix or build 1.60.1.70245 retest confirmed.
Description
On October 8, a player again reported that they could not restore a deleted character while another active character had the same first name and a different last name. The said the name was already in use. They first described their test on October 4. Another player separately described a similar case on September 22: restoring their Mage Sappora Windseeker stopped with an existing-name message. Blizzard permits shared first names but requires the full two-part name to be unique. The cause and exact client build in the new report are unknown.
Effect
Deleting a character to change a name or free a slot may leave it impossible to restore. If you have two characters with the same first name, keep both until a fix is confirmed. The sources provide no verified way to restore a character already affected.

How to reproduce it
- Check your full character list before deleting anyone. Look for shared first names with different last names.
- If you need both characters, do not delete one to test the issue. The reports give no level threshold for this behavior.
- If a character is already deleted, open the normal . In two reports, it may say an active character with that name already exists.
- Record both full names and the client build for Blizzard Support. Do not delete the other character as a proposed fix: the sources have not tested that workaround.
