Succubus: player compares melee crits with the tooltip

Three tests recorded 12 melee crits in 1,718 attacks. The tooltip changed with the owner’s weapon skill.

Status: AidanZMoon clarified in the community tracker that Warlock pets are intended to inherit the owner’s spell crit, not weapon-skill-dependent melee crit. Blizzard affiliation remains unverified. A fix on new build 70374 has not been tested.

Updated What changed

Clarified the Hunter pet contradiction: AidanZMoon now says the current beta uses melee crit and promises ranged crit for Thursday. A repeat test is not confirmed.

Earlier updates

AidanZMoon clarified in the community tracker that Warlock pets are intended to inherit the owner’s spell crit, not weapon-skill-dependent melee crit. Blizzard affiliation remains unverified. A fix on new build 70374 has not been tested.

Description

Fierywind tested a level-30 Warlock’s against equal-level enemies. At 150 staff skill, the tooltip showed 4.58% crit, while that run recorded three crits in 493 melee attacks, about 0.61%. Two low-skill runs recorded four in 685 and five in 540. This is one author’s report with attached logs, not an established rule for every demon. On October 14, 1337LutZ supplied a Hunter pet comparison: 3.5% crit with melee/ranged weapon skills 1/150, 2.8% at 1/1 and 9.6% at 150/150. The author claims 1,000-2,000 hits per test but supplied no new full logs. AidanZMoon clarified the earlier reply: the current beta uses melee crit, with ranged crit promised for Thursday. This is a community-tracker participant’s statement, with Blizzard affiliation unverified. A new build containing that change and a repeat test are not established. Do not apply this Hunter explanation to Warlock pets.

Effect

Do not treat the pet sheet value as proof of its actual crit rate. Owner weapon skill changed the tooltip but did not produce the expected increase in this test.

How to reproduce it

  1. Use and choose enemies at the pet’s level.
  2. Save a combat log and count normal melee attacks and crits separately. Do not combine them with pet spells.
  3. Keep target level, buffs and gear unchanged when comparing weapon skill. Record the sample size and build.

What players report

  • Fierywind

A Hunter test used lower-level enemies and different conditions. The author does not treat it as a direct check of the Succubus result.

  • AidanZMoon

Says pets currently inherit +% critical strike item bonuses, while full spell crit inheritance awaits a pet base crit adjustment. This explanation has not been independently verified and is not a retest.
